Dave,

In cases like this, you need to test. Test your earnings with and without Chitika. You may have more clicks on Adsense if you don't use Chitika.

On the other hand, those extra clicks may not bring in the same revenue as the clicks on Chitika - when it's on. So again, test and see.

Tomaz,
I have both Chitika and Adsense on my site but not in combos. The CTR is about the same for both but the revenue per click is so much more with Adsense (5-7 times more). I am thinking of dumping Chitika altogether because it is not paying. Do you think it is worth keeping Chitika only to use in combos?

Hi Irina,

I suggest you take some screenshots of the ads and email Chitika support showing them what you see. I didn't experience this with my Chitika ads but frankly I rarely see them - because they don't show up here in Slovenia.

So only when I test them I see how they show up...

Hi Tomaz,

I am a fellow SBI-er and am trying to integrate Chitika into my site.

In general, I have not had any technical problems with the ads but what worries me a little bit is that some of the ads in one block (for example, a skyscraper) can look a bit odd.

Some of the ads seem to be "merging with each other", with some text going behind some other text and ads looking a little bit like a mess.

Sorry I can't refer you to a specific page with an example because all the ads are different for each visitor.

But it appears that some ads which require longer descriptions by advertisers are too big for the space allocated for them and they roll over each other looking messy.

I was wondering if you experienced anything like that with Chitika and is there any way to fix this issue?

Also, there are some ads which lack images (just showing black images) which is not very professional.

I really like Chitika and the way it works. Hope I will manage to solve this issue.

Thanks very much for any recommendation in this regard.

Any help will be really appreciated.

Hi Troy,

They're basically equal in earnings per month. Some people obviously prefer to click on Chitika ads and some on Adsense. So I use both. :)

This is a really great post - thanks for the info and the examples of ways to use them side by side. What I want to know, is which of the two - Adsense or Chitika - is bringing in more dough for you.

John,

In theory, the more adsense blocks you have, the less payment you'll get on the last blocks. I prefer to link back to my other pages so that people eventually come back to a new page with a block on top again which pays well. ;)

Too many ads can also scare away other webmasters with which you want to exchange links because they know what's your main motive and they may lose trust with their visitors if they send them to an Adsense trap. ;)

Thanks Tomaz - another question ... but first thank you for all the time and effort you've put in here. I really do appreciate it and reading the comments on this blog, others do as well.

I wonder if I may ask your opinion based on your testing/research? Do you think that 3 250x250 adsense ads on a page is too much?

Why do I ask?
I've put the double 2×250 combo parallel on my new site. I've used includes and put them in a table to keep them aligned. I also have another 250x250 adsense near the top of the page

I chose the option for chitika ads to collapse if not displaying but I see two issues with that option. Firstly when chitika ads don't display the page looks unbalanced and secondly I'm missing an opportunity to put a relevant ad in front of my visitors (New site, no visitors yet - but they'll be here!)

What I had been thinking about doing was ticking the "show different ad" option, put my adsense code on a page of it's own on my site and entering that as the alternative URL.

I *think* that'll work OK but is it perhaps overloading the page with ads and is less perhaps the better option.

Cheers, John

John,

Here's how to <a href="http://chitika.com/blog/2009/04/07/i-cant-see-my-chitika-premium-ads/" rel="nofollow">preview your Chitika ads.</a>

I now use Chitika Premium on my site where I use ads that collapse when there is no search traffic. Some of the ads on my site are still OLD Chitika eMiniMalls which show a default Ipod ad if there is no search traffic.

And yes, I use includes for Chitika now on my newer pages so that I can easily change or remove the ads if needed. (Chitika goes bankrupt ;) , a better system comes up, ...)
