Finding Good Keywords For Product Oriented Websites

If you have a product reviews oriented website and are doing the keyword research with Wordtracker, you can sometimes run out of keywords too quickly.
Here’s an example:
Let’s say you have a tennis racquet reviews website and one of your main pages will contain Wilson tennis racquets.
So you go to Wordtracker to find out which Wilson racquets people search for:

As you can see, you don’t have many useful keywords here since there are just a few models listed. You get a similar results if you search for wilson tennis or something like that.
Solution?
Who is the one who knows all about Wilson racquets on the web? Google.
Google also knows how much advertisers bid on various models.
Here’s a search for Wilson racquets on Google Adwords keyword tool and what you see in the screenshot below is just 10% of keywords that Google returns for that search.

Now you can sort by search volume or average PPC and pick out the exact Wilson tennis racquet models that Google knows people search and bid for.
Although I don’t have a tennis racquet reviews website I tried to follow this example to see how many keywords with a racquet model name I would get from Google that I couldn’t get from Wordtracker.
16!
These 16 racquets may not have a high search volume but your review will be EXACTLY what people on the web look for.
And if you monetize that page with a Chitika ad with which you can target that exact model (with Adsense you’ll have to trust Google to make a perfect match!), you’ll have a very high CTR rate on those ads.

In the end we’ll be all happy – the visitor who found what she was looking for, Chitika for getting a click and you for getting a good share of that click.

Is there anyway to preview chitika ads?
Yes — sign up for an account with them and go to “get emalls code” Type in the product model into the upper right hand corner and if it’s in its database, it will “preview” it for you on the left side of your screen.
Hey Tomaz,
Quick question — if the Estimated CPC in the Google keyword tool is really high for certain keywords, does that mean it might be a potentially profitable area to build a niche site? What do you think?
Phil,
Yes, although it depends what “profitable” niche means to you. I’d say that the content clicks are at least 10 times less worth than the search clicks.
So if you see a keyword worth $10 in the Google Adwords tool, you may get a $1 click occasionally. Probably less…
Note that you’ll often get a much tougher competition when you are after high paying keywords. I am trying my luck with one (conferencing) to see how it goes but right now I am more focused on niches with 1$ – $5 clicks where there is not that much competition.
