How I Increased My Daily Adsense and Chitika Earnings by 20% in 10 Minutes

This is a very simple idea so it’s going to be quite a short post. ;)

Here’s how it all started:

I was checking my Chitika stats and noticed that some of the channels I had set up showed a much higher average pay per click than others.

I had set up the channels so that every main (Tier 2) page of the site had its own channel.

These main pages represent different brands of vacuum cleaners such as Eureka, Dyson, Oreck and others.

So I wanted to see which one pays the most per click.

Here are the average top 10 CPC results:

Chitika stats

As you can see, the top brand pays more than double the last brand!

How could I direct more people to the higher paying brand?

Easy. I rearranged my navigational order to match the order of higher to lower paying ads.

When people stay on a website for awhile they tend to read and explore the site from top to bottom.

So I put the higher paying brands on the top of the navigation, and more people actually viewed those pages.

By the way, the Adsense average CPC has a very similar progression from higher to lower CPC, but it’s much harder to control because of spammy websites (arbitrage websites) that can cause your visitors to leave on a 0.02 click.

Not only that, they also get to a page full of ads without any really interesting content. I hate those. ;(

You get of none of this with Chitika ads, which is why my average CPC from Chitika ads is much higher than my average CPC from Adsense.

After I changed my navigational order I waited a couple of days to see the results.

I saw an increase of around 20% in earnings (better ECPM) in both Adsense and Chitika for the same number of visitors!

This whole analysis, including changing my navigational order, took less than 10 minutes. It might take you a little more time to set up channels accordingly in Adsense and Chitika, and to wait a few days for the results.

But once you know which page of your site receives a higher average cost per click, you can simply rearrange your navigation, and you’ll see an increase in your earnings.

Let me know if this works for you, too!

Great post, Tomaz! While I’ve also noticed the same about my navigation bar, I hadn’t though to place tracking channels on every/each Tier2!

That just goes to show what a little of tracking can do hugely for your income. Amazing. Thanks.
