What Are Relevant Websites and How To Find Them

The World Wide Web is a network made up of links on websites, which people can follow to eventually find what they are looking for.

In order to make these links useful to visitors to websites, they need to be relevant.

What does ‘relevant’ mean?

It means, that if there is a person looking for, say tips on how to lose weight on a certain website, they may also be interested in nutrition, exercise, maybe even juicers or blenders to prepare healthy drinks and so on.

So any link to such websites on these topics is a relevant link, but if they come across a VOIP calls link for example, this is a useless link to them in this instance, in that VOIP is not relevant to the topic of weight loss.

However, sometimes the distinction between relevant topics is not so clear. The websites can be very relevant or only partially relevant.

This question of relevancy often happens when someone asks you for a link exchange.

Here’s a simple search method to help you determine whether a website is relevant to your topic:

If your main topic is weight loss, then search the potentially relevant site for these keywords. In Google you can type:

Google search for relevant websites

Google will show you how many pages where you can find the keyword weight loss on that particular website.

If you can see many results, then the website is very relevant to your topic, but if you see few results (or none), then the website is not really relevant to your topic.

Why are links from relevant websites more valuable?

1. Visitors will follow the links on other websites and thus improve traffic to your site.

2. They will improve your search engine rankings for a particular keyword that is included in the anchor text of the link.

What about pagerank?

Since pagerank is based on a mathematical formula that shows how important a particular website or page is on the web, I believe that you can improve your pagerank by obtaining links from any high pagerank page whether or not it is relevant to your topic.

Nevertheless, I am SURE that Google can determine the topic or theme of your website and check whether you are getting relevant incoming links or are you just trying to manipulate the [tag]pagerank[/tag].

In my opinion, when it comes to linking out and getting [tag]incoming links[/tag], it is better to focus on visitors first and only try to get [tag]relevant links[/tag] from high traffic or high pagerank pages second.

Maybe it is possible to still fool Google today, but if you are in this online business seriously and for the long term, then getting relevant links is the right way forward.
